Business once affiliated with venue files Ch. 11

DETROIT (AP) — A company once affiliated with Detroit’s Masonic Temple has filed for bankruptcy protection, but the venue’s owners say the move doesn’t affect them or the operations of the historic facility.

The Chapter 11 filing was made in the past week by Detroit Masonic Temple Theatre Co.

The Detroit News on Wednesday reported that the Masonic Temple’s owners had filed for bankruptcy protection, but later corrected the story.

The update came just weeks after musician Jack White paid a $142,000 back tax bill for the historic venue.

The money from White to pay the Masonic Temple’s 2010-2012 tax delinquency prevented a threatened auction of the venue where The Who and the Rolling Stones once played. At the time, the 14-story Masonic Temple was days away from being put up for sale.
