WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police are investigating after a shooting early Wednesday morning.

It happened at a home in the 1300 block of South Wichita around 5 a.m.

Police say that two men were trying to break into the home, and the homeowner received an intruder alarm.

“He went in and confronted them. He stated that one of the individuals had a knife and threatened him. The homeowner had a gun and fired at least two shots towards the suspects,” said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.

The suspects both fled.

Officers were called to the area and found one suspect along the railroad tracks.

He was taken into custody and booked for attempted burglary.

Police are trying to locate another person.

“The homeowner believes he hit one of the suspects, but the suspect we have in custody was not injured.  So we don’t know if there’s an injured suspect out there. We’re checking with area hospitals,” said Nolte.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111 or 911.
