Child seriously injured after being hit by SUV in Arkansas City

ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas – Arkansas City police responded to an accident involving a 3-year-old boy and sport utility vehicle Monday afternoon.

It happened around 5:30 in the 1100 block of North 1st Street.

According to police, the boy appeared to step into traffic.

The boy was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle and later transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The boy suffered a fractured right leg, injuries to his foot and major dental damage.

Wesley staff said the boy was scheduled for surgery today.

The name of the boy is being withheld, and the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
