Wichita really goes Nuts on Laredo


WICHITA, Kansas – – The Wichita Wingnuts scored a franchise record 20 runs Monday night in a 20 to 6 beating over the Laredo Lemurs.

Besides scoring 20 runs as a team, C.J. Ziegler tied a club record with seven RBI. Ryan Hinson won his 26th game on the mound for Wichita which tied Derek Blacksher’s team mark.

Ziegler homer in the first inning over the scoreboard to put the Wingnuts up 3 to nothing. Brent Clevlen took the pitch over the wall in center field making it 4-0 in Wichita’s first trip to the plate.

Ziegler drove in two more runs in the fourth.

Wichita scored nine times in the fourth bringing 14 batters to the plate. Ziegler line-drive to left center field sent home three additional Wichita runs putting the Wingnuts up 10 to 0.

Game two of the series will be Tuesday night at 7:05 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
