WICHITA, Kansas — The City of Wichita is looking to give the west bank of the Arkansas River an economic shot in the arm.
On Tuesday, the city heard two different proposals, and now has the tough decision as to which is best to accomplish its goals.
Clark Investment Group in Wichita partnered with a developer out of Branson, Missouri to propose the RIV, a 140-unit apartment complex, costing $17.8 million.
Another proposal from a group of three local developers proposed the River Vista Residences, a 154 unit apartment complex that also includes office and retail space.
The price tag comes in at just under $25 million.
The city will now check the proposals and see which best complements the city’s goal of maximizing public access to the river.
“There’s a lot of potential along our river, and unlike some communities where they build up right on the river I think in Wichita we’re interested in close to the river but still maintaining a natural appearance along the river so people can interact in those areas and have access to the river,” said Janet Miller, Wichita City Council Member.
The city will also evaluate each project to see if it’s eligible to receive public funding.
A project selection could be made by August.
