WICHITA, Kansas – City council members voted Tuesday morning to approve a $300,000 settlement to the family of a girl who died after being hit by a Wichita police car.

Twelve-year-old Suhani Bhakta and another girl were crossing the street near Harry and Broadway last February when a police car struck and killer her.

The lawsuit claims the officer didn’t have his lights, and sirens on at the time of the accident.

The Bhakta family will be paid out of the City of Wichita’s self-insurance fund.
