LEHIGH ACRES, Florida (WBBH) – A Lehigh Acres boy is dead, and deputies are calling it a tragic accident.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office says three-year-old Kyrese Anderson was found dead after being left in a hot car Saturday afternoon.
The family had been in Palmetto for a funeral.
“I was shocked because I knew they were always taking care of their kids, they are a large family,” said neighbor Andrew Vaughan.
“I feel bad for them, anytime you lose a child so young, and especially something freaky like that you feel bad for them,” added neighbor Joe Peters.
It was outside of a Palmetto home Saturday that deputies say a misunderstanding ended in tragedy.
“They get back from the funeral several hours later, and they ask where the 3-year-old was, and the babysitter said, ‘I thought he was with you?'” described Dave Bristow, with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Turns out, deputies say, the child was mistakenly left inside a hot SUV for up to four hours.
“It’s very, very tragic and everything the detectives have uncovered so far point to it being a very tragic accident,” Bristow said.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case. So far, no charges have been filed against the parents or babysitter.
Peters says the awful misunderstanding leaves them thinking about their own kids.
“Makes me think, yes I should be more careful, not talk on the phone, texting or doing God knows what and just to double check myself and the back seat,” he said.
