Police: Mother abandons infant son at Walmart

WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police say Tiffany Patterson was arrested Saturday after she left her infant son inside a northwest Wichita Walmart.

Sgt. Bruce Watts of the Wichita Police Department said Patterson was seen walking around the Walmart at 10600 West 21st Street at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, taking merchandise out of its packaging and placing it on top of her 2-week-old son in his carrier.

She walked around for about 30 minutes and and then left the store, leaving the child in the carrier on the floor.

Police booked her on child abandonment charges and for an unrelated felony warrant.

She reportedly admitted to police to having a drug problem.

The baby is now in police protective custody.
