Wingnuts pitcher sets franchise record in win

WICHITA, Kansas – – The Wichita Wingnuts received good pitching from Ryan Hinson in a 7 to 1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Thursday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Hinson set the all-time franchise record in strikeout with his 219th in a Wichita uniform during the contest. Hinson pitched eight innings giving up five hits and one earned run in the win.

Jake Kahaulelio homer over the left field wall to give the Wingnuts a 2 to 0 lead in the first inning.

Wichita scored three additional runs in the fifth. A home run to left-center off the bat of C.J. Ziegler accounted for a pair of runs. Ziegler later picked up a solo homer in the seventh frame.

Pitcher Jon Link signed a contract earlier in the day with the Detroit Tigers. Andrew Aizenstadt  was signed before the game and pitched  a perfect ninth inning to close out the contest.

Wichita goes to Sioux City, Iowa for a four game series against the Explorers  starting Thursday night.

The Wingnuts return home Monday to take the Laredo Lemurs.
