WICHITA, Kansas– He ran into a burning home to help save a woman’s life.  Today, that member of the Kansas Air National Guard was honored by the Wichita Fire Department for his heroism.

Tech Sergeant, Shawn Rucker, was driving home from his shift on November 24th last year, when he saw a house on fire.

He found two people living there who made it out safely, but a woman was still asleep inside.

Rucker rushed in with one of the homeowners and helped carry her to safety.

At today’s awards ceremony, he was humble about his role in the rescue.

“Honestly, I think that most, if not all, the members of the military, most would have done the exact same thing,” said Rucker. “I work with people like that everyday.”

Rucker is a Wichita native and has served in the National Guard for almost 10 years.
