FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) – Ohio police say a baby was scalped during an apparent domestic incident in Fairborn last week.
Police were called on a report of a fight between man and a woman.
During the 911 call for help, Weatherspoon told investigators, “I got a hurt baby”.
He also said the injury happened as a result of a “little argument” with his wife.
When police arrived they said they found an injured woman, Shunta Darlene Weatherspoon, in the apartment sitting on a couch holding an infant in a blanket.
Officers said that while talking to Weatherspoon, she pulled the blanket back from the child and they saw that the little boy was missing a portion of his scalp.
Weatherspoon told officers she thinks her husband pulled off the baby’s scalp by pulling its hair while he was trying to pull her hair.
Police arrested Kodi Weatherspoon at the scene on charges of felonious assault and child endangering.
The baby was taken to Children’s Medical Center. His condition has not been released.
Shunta Darlene Weatherspoon was treated at the scene then taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
Another child in the apartment at the time of the incident was not injured.
On Monday, news of the attack spread through Weatherspoon’s apartment community, close to the Wright State University Campus.
“I keep saying it, but I think it’s crazy,” said Kevin Homan, who lives in an neighboring building. “I can’t imagine what would drive somebody to do that”.
