TOPEKA, Kansas – The winner of a $214,777 Super Kansas Cash jackpot is a 30-year-old pipefitter from Junction City.
The winner, who asked the Lottery not to disclose his identity, claimed his prize this morning at Lottery headquarters in Topeka.
He matched all numbers in last night’s drawing with a $5 Quick Pick ticket. The winning numbers were 3-12-25-28-31 Super Cashball 14.
The winner told Lottery officials it was only the third time he had played the game.
“I went online and looked at the odds of winning in all the games,” the winner explained. “The odds of winning the jackpot in Super Kansas Cash were a lot better than winning the jackpot in, say, Powerball, so that’s what I’ve been playing.”
The lucky winner, who described himself as “happy, shocked and still pretty shaky,” is single. He brought his grandmother with him when he claimed the ticket.
“She’s really like a mother to me, so I wanted to include her in this day,” he said.
The Super Kansas Cash jackpot will be paid in a cash lump sum, minus withholding taxes. After the Lottery withholds 25% federal taxes ($53,694) and 5% state taxes ($10,738), the winner will receive a payment in the amount of $150,344.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Handy’s 4, located at 1124 Washington St. in Junction City.
For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, the store becomes eligible for a $1,000 selling bonus.
