PINELLAS COUNTY, Florida (WFLA) — A Florida woman is dead after being struck by lightning while walking along Belleair Beach.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies say lightning hit 51-year-old Phyllis Kalinowski of Brandon Monday, killing her instantly.

Friend Dawn Ryskoski says she and Kalinowski had gone to the beach for a day of sunning and shelling, but were separated when the storm struck.

She looked for Phyllis after the weather passed and found her in the sand.
