More violent storms possible in Kansas

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Forecasters are warning of possible severe weather in the southern Plains today.

The Storm Prediction Center says storms could bring baseball-size hail, wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour and tornadoes to west-central Kansas, west-central Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.

Strong storms are already moving across the Texas Panhandle into North Texas, bringing hail and punishing winds that have knocked out power to thousands.

Severe weather raked parts of northern Illinois last night. As many as 7,100 homes and businesses were left without power and minor flooding was reported. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
