KINGMAN, Kansas — Jurors in Kingman County heard testimony from three former friends of Vashti Seacat Wednesday morning.
All three women describe Vashti as happy and enthusiastic about her divorce from Brett Seacat in days before her death.
All three women opted not to have their testimony recorded by the media.
The three testified that Vashti was a good mom that cared deeply for her kids.
They say it was the happiest they seen her in years as she looked forward to her life without Brett.
They also told the jury that Vashi was deeply concerned about Brett’s reaction to the divorce.
Vashti was found dead days after serving Brett with divorce papers.
Brett Seacat continues to say her death was a suicide.
“There is a fire. My wife just shot herself. She is in the fire,” said Brett in audio from a 911 recording.
It was played for the jury during afternoon testimony.
Seacat says he went to Vashti’s bedroom barefoot and tried to lift her off her bed, but he realized she was dead.
Several photos were also introduced into evidence that showed Seacat had no blood on his body and nothing but a small blister on his foot and some singed leg hair to show from the fire.
Prosecutors believe that 911 call was nothing more than the next step in his calculated plan to make his wife’s murder look like a suicide.
Also introduced into evidence was the weapons taken from the Seacat home.
It included the gun that was used in Vashti’s death.
Testimony continues Thursday in Kingman County.
