African-American hero buried with full military honors

ARLINGTON (NBC) – A woman who made military history was laid to rest today.

US Air Force Colonel Ruth A.  Lucas was buried with full military honors today at Arlington National Cemetary.

Lucas was the first African American woman in the Air Force to be promoted to the rank of colonel.

Lucas was also the highest-ranking African American woman in the Air Force when she retired in 19-70.
