WICHITA, Kansas – Two people have died in an accident that happened about 7:30 Tuesday morning near the I-235 and K-42 interchange.
Investigators say Nicholas R. Oswald, 27, of Wichita, drove his car across the median and started going the wrong way in the northbound lanes of 235.
They say he hit a pickup truck head-on, killing himself and the driver of the pickup, Adam C. Hutchinson, 32, of Wichita.
So far, investigators don’t know why Oswald crossed into the wrong lane.
“There was a witness right behind the S-10 pickup that literally skidded to a stop in the median and was able to provide information,” said Trooper Gary Warner, Kansas Highway Patrol.
Other witnesses were questioned at the scene.
Representatives from the district attorney’s office were also looking into the accident.
Troopers closed the northbound lanes of I-235 at Seneca and southbound lanes at Kellogg during the investigation, but they are open now.
