Body of drowning victim recovered from Kansas lake

WELLINGTON, Kansas — Search and rescue crews recovered Tuesday morning the body of a person who was reported missing Memorial Day at Wellington Lake.

The call went out Monday that the person went under the water and hadn’t come back up for air around 5 p.m.

The victim, believe to be a 14-year-old boy from the Haysville area, was at the lake with friends and was walking in the water when he went under.

Crews searched for several hours Monday and resumed early Tuesday morning.

Winds Monday were gusting near 40 mph and may have contributed to the boy’s drowning.
