Longmont, CO (CNN) – Fire heavily damaged a mortuary in Longmont, Colorado.

Police spokesman jeff satur says the fire had spread to the roof by the time crews arrived.

“Longmont Fire, Longmont Police were dispatched to a structural fire at Howe Mortuary.   When they arrived the building was already starting to show signs of fire, fire was in the roof of the building.  At this point it appears to have started at the northwest corner of the building but when we arrived it had already entered the roof of the building and as you can see its a very difficult fire and the building appears to be a complete loss.”

Firefighters were able to remove one of five bodies that were in the mortuary at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
