Wichita American Legion post remembers namesake

American Legion Arthur Gossett Post

WICHITA, Kansas — One Wichita American Legion kicked off Memorial Day with a breakfast.

Members of the Arthur Gossett Post, 1335 N. Hydraulic, paid their respects to the post’s namesake at a small graveside service.

After the service, the veterans and their families went back to the post on North Hydraulic to enjoy breakfast and camaraderie while enjoying the solemn holiday.

The post commander says it’s all about honoring our soldiers.

“Veterans, military people in general, pay a tremendous price in serving this nation,” said Eugene Anderson, Post Commander. “And Arthur Gossett paid the ultimate price, he lost his life. I think it’s important that we remember that, not only those who have served but those who serve today.”

The post also voted unanimously to donate $500 to the American Red Cross to help the tornado recovery effort in Moore, Oklahoma.
