Gillaspie’s grand slam powers Shockers

WICHITA, Kansas – – Casey Gillaspie’s grand slam backed by outstanding pitching helped the Wichita State Shockers defeat the Northwestern Wildcats 5 to nothing Friday night at Eck Stadium.

Aaron LaBrie (4-1) threw two scoreless innings lowering his Earned Run Average to 0.91. A.J. Ladwig was the Shocker starter giving up no runs in six innings.

Gillaspie homer to leftfield in the bottom of the eighth insured the victory. Micah Green, Tanner Dearman and Tyler Baker all scored on the play.

The Shockers will finish the regular season Saturday against Northwestern with a 2 p.m. contest before starting postseason play in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament at Illinois State beginning Tuesday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
