Wingnuts close out exhibition play with win over Winnipeg


WICHITA, Kansas – –  The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9 to 6 in the final exhibition game of the 2013 season Wednesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

There were five lead changes in the game.

Wichita took control with a three run outburst in the eighth inning to break a 6-all tie. Cole Armstrong scored on a sacrifice fly by Colt Loehrs to put the Nuts on top to stay.

Jake Kahaulello had two runs batted in with two hits for Wichita.

Nick Walters picked up the win in relief for the Wingnuts. Walters pitched a scoreless ninth allowing no hits with one strikeout.

Wichita opens the regular season Thursday night in a two game series against Kansas City. A ceremony celebrating the life of coach Brian Rose will happen prior to the game.

Jon Link will start for the Wingnuts with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
