Garden City High School senior admitted to West Point

Brevin Irvin

GARDEN CITY, Kansas — A graduating Garden City High School senior has been appointed to pursue military officer training starting this summer.

Brevin Irvin has been admitted to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point which is known as one of the most selective schools in the country.

It’s been a dream of Irvin’s ever since he was in middle school.

He says he’s excited for the opportunity to serve our country.

“I know that they try to give you almost more than you can handle to push you to the limit, and physically, you have to stay in shape because they test you throughout the year,” said Brevin Irvin, accepted to West Point.

In addition to the normal application process, students interested in attending the service academies also must go through interviews with members of Congress.

Irvin reports to West Point for six weeks of basic training on July 1 before starting the regular school year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
