Ellis County voters approve tax increase

KSN Decision 2014

HAYS, Kansas — Voters in Ellis County overwhelmingly approved a measure that will benefit public services in the county.

The half-cent sales tax passed by an unofficial margin of 82% in favor of the measure and 18% against.

The revenue raised by the tax increase will be used to build a new EMS and fire department building, and to renovate the county jail.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $14.3 million.

The Tuesday election results are unofficial until they are canvassed on May 20th, though it is unlikely to affect the outcome.
