Butler County man hospitalized after snake bite

BUTLER COUNTY, Kansas — A 50-year-old Butler County man was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after being bitten by a snake.

It happened just after 4 p.m. close to Ohio and 170th Street, near Highway 77 south of Augusta.

The man’s wife called 911 and he was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in serious condition.

It was originally believed that the man was bitten by a cottonmouth snake, but that has not been confirmed yet.

An ecologist with Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism says that cottonmouths have never been seen in Butler County. They’ve only been found in the far southeast corner of Kansas.
