WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police are continuing to investigate an attempted abduction Friday night.

Three girls were walking home from the QuikTrip at Harry and Edgemoor at about 9:30.

Police say at some point a vehicle with the suspect inside approached them and said something to them. They all three began to run.

At some point, the suspect followed one of the girls, got out of the truck and started to talk with her.

During that conversation, she ran away and called police

“There was a distraction, and she ran away at that point to a friend’s house,” said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.

A 17-year-old suspect was located in the area. He was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.

Police aren’t releasing the exact details in the case.

“Initial reports say that she wasn’t with the suspect for 30 to 40 minutes,” said Nolte. “There was no actual abduction. It was just an attempted abduction.”

Police say the girls did everything legitimately.
