Police chase leads to fiery crash

WICHITA, Kansas — Police are trying to find out why a group of people in a car tried to make a run for it after police tried to pull them over. The chase led the car to lose control, crash into a house, and catch fire.

It started around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning, when police attempted to pull the car over. The driver did not stop and led police on a short pursuit.

Police were able to blow the tires using spikes. The car kept going for about a half-mile before losing control and crashing into a house and catching fire.

Police took four of the car’s five occupants into custody.

“We haven’t ascertained what the situation is or why they were running from us,” said Wichita Police Sergeant R.L. Runft. “There was a 17-year-old girl in the car but they ranged in the early twenties. One individual is known to be an absconder from the Kansas Department of Corrections. So we can only assume at this point that he was just trying to avoid custody.”

The fire from the car did not spread to the house, and luckily, no one was home at the time of the crash.
