WICHITA, Kansas — On Wednesday night, the public had their say on what to with Southeast High.
The meeting was at Northeast Magnet. The newest school for USD 259.
But, there has been talk of building a new high school near Pawnee and 127th East.
There has also been talk of keeping the old Southeast High and re-vamping the building leaving the old school where it is right now.
“We are Southeast High alumni ourselves, and we have two young boys who are going into high school in the next few years. We are just really looking to get information, what the district is thinking,” said Mandy Anderson, Southeast High Parent.
Anderson is exactly what the school district is looking for right now.
“Whether we remodel and stay where we are at or whether we build a new school or build both schools. So it’s really a process of community involvement is what we are looking for,” said Lynn Rogers, USD 259 School Board President.
School leaders say they are keeping an open mind though they say something has to be done about Southeast High.
They won’t make a decision for some time, but they hope meetings will give parents information and input will help them make a decision.
It will be more than a month before the school board will make its decision.
