Abduction report now investigated as mental illness case

WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police say an abduction attempt Wednesday turned out to be a father having a mental breakdown.

A person called 911 just before 5:30 Wednesday and said a juvenile was being abducted at the QuikTrip at Kellogg and Maize Road.

The car was seen a few minutes later going east. Wichita police officers pulled it over at the Central Business District exit.

Wichita police said Thursday, a man was having a mental breakdown.

The 14-year-old boy tried to jump out of the car.

His dad yanked him back in.
