Man dies after accidental shooting in Park City

PARK CITY SHOOTING

PARK CITY, Kansas — A man died early Saturday morning after suffering a gunshot wound to his stomach Friday night.

Eloy Portillo-Meza, 36, of Denver, was rushed to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition at about 9 p.m. Friday, according to Park City Police Chief Phil Bostian.

He died at about 12:20 a.m. the next morning.

Portillo-Meza was in town visiting a friend in the 1600 block of East Gary, when his friend was showing him a .22 caliber Magnum revolver. That’s when his friend, thinking the gun was empty, accidentally shot Portillo-Meza in the stomach, Bostian said.

The friend was questioned and released by police.

It is not yet clear whether charges will be filed.
