Man defends himself with a butter knife after trying to steal tips from a diner

WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police responded to an aggravated assault and disturbance Wednesday after a man attacked several employees at Brint’s Diner

It happened at Lincoln and Oliver.

When police arrived, employees at the business told them a 20-year-old man was trying to take tips off the tables.

He was confronted by several employees and other customers.

During the confrontation, he grabbed a butter knife and approached one of the people inside the business.

Several customers and employees pushed him out the door of the business and held the door to keep him from coming back inside.

The suspect then left the area and was located by police

“While he was talking to officers, he informed them that he was just playing around with the employees. He was booked anyway into the Sedgwick County Jail for aggravated assault in reference to this case,” said Lt. Joe Schroeder, Wichita Police Department.

The suspect did not get away with any tip money. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
