WICHITA, Kansas — An alert neighbor helped police arrest three people accused of stealing copper from a vacant nursing home.
It happened Thursday afternoon in the 2800 block of South Hillside.
Wichita police say three people were seen pushing a shopping cart as well as trash cans that were full of building materials.
Officers say the arrived and found copper wiring as well as copper piping inside those trash cans.
Police determined the wire came from the vacant nursing home.
“This is an excellent example of a neighbor just paying attention, watching a vacant building, noticed some suspicious activity and then called 911,” said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.
All three people were arrested for burglary.
