TAIYUAN, China (CNN) — A truck crashed on a toll booth at Taiyuan expressway, capital of northern China’s Shanxi Province Wednesday morning, injuring its driver and a passenger.
According to the surveillance video, the driver rushed the toll booth at the expressway without any hesitation.
At the accident scene, the truck cut a corner of stone block, breaking off several police blockages, tearing down a toll booth, crushing another as well.
“This is an ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) lane with only a toll machine, (vehicles) do not need to stop to pay toll. If there had been a person (working), he would’ve died,” said a staff member with the Taiyuan expressway operation control center.
An adjacent tollbooth also was damaged, but the staff member inside was safe.
A passenger in the truck was severely injured and is under medical observation in hospital.
The driver was said to be bruised.
