WaKeeney man killed in accident near Scott City

SCOTT CITY, Kansas – A 58-year-old WaKeeney man was killed in a accident Wednesday morning on K-96 west of Scott City.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2002 Mack truck was northbound on Indian Road.

The truck then crossed K-96 and struck a 1995 Freightliner driven by 58-year-old Timothy Smith of WaKeeney.

Smith was pronounced dead on the scene.

The 25-year-old driver of the Mack truck from Ness City was taken to Scott County Hospital.

The highway was closed for hours as troopers investigated the accident.
