SALINA, Kansas – It’s unlikely that a Salina woman will ever top her first trip to the circus.
Jenna Krehbiel was attending the Isis Shrine Circus on Saturday at the Salina Bicentennial Center when she needed a bathroom break.
“When we first got there and sat down, my husband commented how thin the clips looked on the tiger cages, and he said, ‘Wouldn’t that be something if the tiger or any of the animals got loose.’”
When she walked into the bathroom, she found a tiger standing about 2 feet away.
“And when I turned the corner, there was the tiger at the most two to three feet away. So, I turned back around and that’s when security screamed at me to get out of the bathroom.”
The big cat escaped briefly after performing for the circus. Staff members blocked off all entrances where the public could come into contact with the tiger and it wandered into the bathroom.
Krehbiel used a door to the bathroom that hadn’t been blocked off. She says she stayed calm and walked out.
The tiger was returned to its cage a short time later. No one was injured.
