Father who recorded massive Texas explosion describes the blast

WEST, Texas (KETK) — Dozens may be dead following a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas following a Wednesday evening blast.

The explosion happened around 8:00pm at West Fertilizer, Inc.

A triage was initially set up at a nearby high school football field, but they were later moved from the football field to a location six blocks away for fear of a second explosion.

The City of West has been evacuated.

A witness caught the explosion on camera.

According to Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton, the death toll currently ranges anywhere from five to 15. Around 160 people have been reported injured.

West, Texas, Mayor Tommy Muska said 50 to 60 houses in a five-block area were heavily damaged.

The Texas Department of Public Safety estimates that 75-100 houses and businesses have been destroyed in a two-block radius of the plant. Up to 1,000 people are without power in the area.
