TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) – Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback will not get a chance to see President Barack Obama this week in Lawrence after the president canceled the event.

The White House announced the change of plans Tuesday in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. No makeup date for Obama to reschedule the trip was announced.

Brownback said earlier that he hadn’t been invited to attend Obama’s event at the University of Kansas but would go if he were asked to attend.

The governor had joked that maybe he and Obama, an avid basketball fan, could shoot a few hoops during the visit. Lawrence is home to the Kansas Jayhawks, who lost to Michigan in the NCAA tournament. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
