Two people critically injured in accident on Kansas Turnpike

TOWANDA, Kansas — Nine people from Amarillo, Texas were injured, two critically, in an accident on the Kansas Turnpike near Towanda on Sunday.

It happened just before 8 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the Towanda Service Area, according to Lt. Dennis Tate of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The large passenger van that the group was riding in lost tread in one of the tires and the driver slammed on the brakes. He then lost control and the van overturned.

Four people were rushed to Wesley Medical Center; four others were taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis.
