PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — A police officer in Port Canaveral, Florida, has been fired after bringing targets resembling Trayvon Martin to a police firearms training session.

Investigators say the targets were handed out by Port Canaveral Police Sergeant Ron King.

A representative of the Canaveral Port Authority issued an apology to the family of Trayvon Martin, and said they don’t find this behavior acceptable on any level.

Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represents the Martin family, issued a statement saying it’s reprehensible that a high-ranking member of the Port Canaveral Police would use the image of a dead child as target practice.

The statement went on to say that such deliberate and depraved indifference to the grieving family is unacceptable.
