Woman sentenced in shooting near Topeka school

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) – A 23-year-old woman involved in a fatal shooting near a Topeka high school has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Samantha Dawn Carroll was drove the car used by four people charged in October 2010 shooting death of 20-year-old Matthew C. Mitchell. A 17-year-old was wounded in the shooting during a drug deal near Topeka West High School.

Carroll will receive credit for the two years she has been incarcerated since she was charged in the case.

She pleaded guilty in October 2011 to conspiracy to commit felony first-degree murder and no contest to aggravated intimidation of a witness.
