WICHITA, Kansas — It’s here. Shocker Mania. Mid-Continent Airport is flooded with fans heading to see the Wichita State Shockers play in the Final Four.
“We’re representing the rest of the family,” Nicole Kriegiseh said. “All 12 of us kids went to WSU. Go Shockers!” Nicole and her sisters are all headed to Atlanta.
“So we prepared these posters so they can use them at the game and cheer loud,” Debbie Harding, a Commerce Bank employee, said. “We start with the Marshall Plan and fear the wheat and then when we hit all of our threes we’re going to hold up the threes in the stands.”
So it seems Shocker Mania has flooded the airport. They’re selling t-shirts and handing out these Fear the Wheat signs to take to the game but not everybody is flying out to see the game. some are staying at home and they’re okay with that.
For Kathy Ivy Shocker Mania runs deep. She’s got the shirt. And she’s got the license plate on the car.
“Oh, I get comments all the time,” Ivy said of her custom license plate that says SHOX. “I’ve had people offer to buy the rights to it but i’m not ready to give it up.”
Ivy says all the hype and hoopla of the game is a thrill, and she’s excited so many are heading out to Atlanta. But as a shocker superfan, she will be watching at home.
“I’m watching it at home, nobody around me. It’s not safe to be around me at this level of the game.”
And while some decide to stay at home and watch on TV, others are on the way to Atlanta. Either way, they seem to have the same attitude: Shocker Mania is here.
