WICHITA, Kansas — Lots of Shocker fans are heading south to catch the Final Four game, but police say you need to take a few precautions before you leave on the trip.

Wichita police advise travelers to use caution when sharing their weekend plans on social media.  Burglars could zero in on an empty house.

Instead, police say stop your newspaper delivery, have someone pick up your mail and leave lights on in your home.

You can even file a vacation report with police.

“You’re putting out the information of your home, what cars should be there, emergency contact information and it lets the beat officer know we’ve got a house that’s unoccupied, maybe we can drive by there a few extra times a night,” explains Sergeant Travis Rakestraw with the Wichita Police Department.

Police also advise people heading out of town to wait until they return home to post pictures of their trip online.
