WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita fans are loving that the Shockers are going to the Final Four, and they showed their love by attending a radio show Monday where coach Gregg Marshall talked about his team.
“I’m just a steward of a wonderful basketball program, and a very proud steward,” said Marshall.
Coach Marshall also talked about being on the way to the Final Four.
“I think any pressure that we feel is internal pressure to do well, to perform well when given the opportunity,” said Marshall. “Yeah, focused on the here and now. Right now, we’re just focused on Louisville, and if we can get past them, we get Michigan or Syracuse.”
Marshall is practicing what he preaches. He tells his players to take it one game at a time. But, he is also quick to say he is enjoying the ride.
That ride may help recruiting for the Shockers down the road.
“I hope it really helps recruiting. We’ve got some really good players coming in already,” explains Marshall. “Even without the advantage of the Final Four. Now, we should be able to get involved with some players maybe we weren’t able to get involved with prior. Our staff does a wonderful job of evaluating, and it should open some doors for us.”
As the crowd gathered for the radio show cheered and applauded the coach and his team, Gregg Marshall said, win or lose this weekend, this has already been a great ride.
“Of course. Of course, it has been,” said Marshall. “But we’re not done yet!”
