WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita State is looking for their first trip to the Elite 8 since the Shockers beat the Kansas Jayhawks in the famous battle in 1981.

Mike Kennedy has been calling games for the Shockers since then.

This is his third Sweet 16 for Wichita State.

After a lot of up and down years, it is a thrill to be court side tonight to call the action for those watching back home.

“This is three Sweet 16’s in 33 years. So, they are rare enough. They are very special when it happens. It really looks like this team has a chance to go beyond that. But, I would think they are a favorite against La Salle. After that, who knows. Lets not put than one aside just yet. There is a real chance they could go beyond that,” said Kennedy.

This is the second time, the Shockers have faced La Salle.

Back in 2003, the Shockers beat them.

The Explorers admit they don’t know a whole lot about Wichita.

No, I’ve never been to Wichita,” one player said.

Another replied, “I don’t even know where it is at.”
